Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a type of mind-body intervention in which hypnosis is used to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility in the treatment of a medical or psychological disorder or concern.

You are aways in full control when under hypnosis and you do not have to take on the therapist's suggestions if you do not want to. If necessary, you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state at any point and hypnosis does not work if you do not want to be hypnotised.

There are many different reasons why a person might want to try hypnotherapy and research suggests that there are a number of possible applications.

What can I expect from hypnotherapy?

There are a number of different methods of hypnotherapy and different ways of hypnotising someone.

First, you'll usually have a talk with our therapist to discuss what you hope to achieve and agree what methods will be used.

After this, the hypnotherapist may:

  • lead you into a deeply relaxed state, leaving you feeling refreshed and relaxed

  • use agreed methods to help you towards your goals – for example, suggesting that you do not want to carry out a certain habit

  • gradually bring you out of the trance-like state
